About the Author
Jack Herris has a long history with aviation. His parents started dating while car-pooling together to North American Aviation during WW2. Jack’s father built P-51s, including parts for the first P-51 Mustang ever built, and his mother built B-25s. In 1971 Jack graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics. He then served as a Naval Aviator, flying P-3B Orion aircraft with VP-46. After leaving the navy he worked in the Laser Fusion Program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, then worked in the high tech industry in Silicon Valley. He holds CFI, CFI-I, CFI-ME, ATP, and Learjet type ratings. Jack is a long-time member of the League of WWI Aviation Historians, and before that the Cross & Cockade Society, and has written more than a dozen articles on WWI aircraft published in their quarterly journal, Over the Front and has edited several issues of that journal. He brings additional insight into these aircraft both from his engineering and military pilot experience. In 1992 he founded Flying Machines Press to publish aviation history books and after publishing 20 titles, sold Flying Machines Press in 2000. He became a repeat offender by starting Aeronaut Books, which published its first two new aviation books around Thanksgiving 2010 and now has 30 new titles in print. Great ideas for refreshing pilgrimage of a child with God

Although this book is written by a group of educators it is one of the best books I have ever read on children's spirituality and show us with many examples how the faith community can nurture its youngest members. Children Matter emphasized relationships between people and encourages the church to welcome all children as valued participants in the people of God.

A wide range of examples from the Protestant traditions and drawing on the Bible, history and psychology to lay good foundations. The examples were excellent and evualated with strengths and weaknesses for all ages from toddler through grade school. The evidence of teaching is learning; how the children respond, the questions they ask, the attitudes they demonstrate in actual behavior and the way they use Scripture to inform their lives and decisions.

A wide ranges of examples were given from ancient times to the present. The book was exciting in the responses from the children. Anyone who works with children would find this an excellent tool, it has a great bibliography, footnotes, scripture list ---you couldn't ask for more.

It left me with a great sense of hope and urgency to give our teachers and parents great tools.

Imagine the faith journey with children as a pilgrimage or dance with God. Explore the contexts in which children live, make an informed and animated commitment to nurture a vibrant faith in your churchs youngest members. Everything I spent ten years learning about children's ministry, these authors have managed to boil down into a FANASTIC resource for church leaders and volunteers. This is an exceptional blending of theory and practice, covering both logistical and philosophical issues. If you want to read just one book about ministry to children, this is it!

Children Matter is a useful tool for church education committees to read and study together. It provides a broad overview of the componants of educational programing in a parish setting. It introduces aspects of educational ministry that lay persons need to develop an understanding and articulation of today's approach.

You get what you pay for

I was desperately waiting for this book to become available. I owned the original and it was amazing. This book is small and some of the most memorable photographs are missing. The $23.10 that I paid for this book could have gone toward the cost of a used copy of the original. Calling it "Allure by Diana Vreeland" is a disgrace.

The late Diana Vreeland , who has seen every garment you could imagine, and met everyone you could imagine has bequeathed her perspective on what possesses the power of "Allure". As she toured the world she knew ( Europe, the U.S., the U.K. and, effectively, the World of Fashion ) there would come moments of revelation when she was struck by an image or a moment that had more than just beauty or visual appeal. It had a gravitation pull that seduces the observer and reveals that it has more than the mere beauty of its subject or the ability to conjure day-dreams of distant lands where Shrangri-La has an all-night convenience store. The SOIGNEE "Ugly-Duckling".......

Diana Vreeland was one of those RARE individuals who ENTIRELY created themselves....... A RARE GEM of a GLOSSY, LACQUERED, somewhat aristocratic woman who, through SHEER WILL (and intellect and breeding, certainly) became THE paragon of style in a world that continues to coarsen and disappear,,,,,,,Interestingly, as the years went by she became more ALIVE, more liberated, hopefully more happy......A woman of EXCEPTIONAL TASTE, she was able to maneuver the Park Avenue crowd where she purpurtedly grew up, but as she grew older she KNEW that new blood was needed and she headed DOWNTOWN to mix with the "demimonde" and started to leave behind all that stuffy old money that was growing more and more irrelevant.....
I have been GREATLY inspired by Mrs. Vreeland, even though I never had the honor to meet her......
Her joy of life, of BEAUTY, of humanity was alwyays PALPABLE, and I believe she had a great heart......
BRANDED forever an UGLY GIRL by her unstable,rather monstrous mother, perhaps that came to define her life, as she says in her"Bio" DV---which I highly recommend.....
This particular book is filled with large black-and-white cutouts from newspapers and magazines that she kept for inspiration, and the subjects are varied, but always come back to her obsessions with royalty and the most SOIGNEE women of the 20th century..... Half or more of what she says is pure FLUFF, but frothy and delightful (and sometimes downright CRUEL). I have derived much pleasure from this book, but may I suggest that you ONLY buy this book IF you have a fascination with the upper classes, STYLE, and the sayings of a very STYLISH woman who sometimes verges on madness and parody-------tongue-in-cheek parody, as she was too intelligent to take herself too seriously.
In a world that COARSENS more and more, Mrs. Vreeland is the perfect antidote-------a "figure of fantasy" that can offer us a moment of respite in a CRASS, VULGAR, let-it-all-out society.....
She was very SPECIAL, and she is missed.......
UPDATE!!!!
I had based my review on the ORIGINAL TOME which was perhaps 18" by 12"---an oversized, ultra-glamorous object (SIZE CAN make a difference sometimes-----SHUT UP!), and then saw the new print a few days ago (March 2011) and my heart SANK------it has suffered from, well, erectile disfunction..Ha! That is not a problem for those who cannot envision the old, of course, but for me it was a deep disappointment...... The "Grandiosity" of the old one MATCHED the creator of it-----why they decided to do this, must clearly have been the fear of poor sales, but the "larger-than-life" clips were, to me, a necessity. Still, I will buy the SHRUNKEN one (why did I give that book away???)....So let me not SOUR it for you.......The paper is now glossy, which is lovely, while the old thing was a thick, rough kind.......
Oh well, go get it.... Mrs. Vreeland deserves your purchase!

Larry W. Mays is Professor in�the Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering Group in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Build Environment at Arizona State University (ASU), and former chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Prior to ASU he was Director of the Center for Research in Water Resources at the University of Texas at Austin, where he held an Engineering Foundation-endowed professorship. A registered professional engineer in several states, and a registered professional hydrologist, he has served as a consultant to many national and international Organizations.

Professor Mays has published extensively in refereed journal publications and in the proceedings of national and international conferences. He was the author of the first edition of this book and Optimal Control of Hydrosystems (published by Marcel Dekker), and co-author of Applied Hydrology and Hydrosystems Engineering and Management (both from McGraw-Hill) and Groundwater Hydrology (published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.). He was editor-in-chief of Water Resources Handbook, Water Distribution Systems Handbook, Urban Water Supply Management Tools, Stormwater Collection Systems Design Handbook, Urban Water Supply Handbook, Urban Water Resources Sustainability, all published by McGraw-Hill. Chock full of errors, many logical leaps.

This text includes some useful information, but the author makes some logical leaps and bounds that are very difficult to follow. Equations are given without explanation and the wording of some passages leaves the reader searching for guidance. Some example solutions use equations that aren't given (and can't be expected to be known). Examples are also sparse and cover only about a third of the concepts discussed. I would not suggest using this book as a reference, but if you are required to use it for a class, take good notes in lecture.

Unfortunately, I don't feel a review is going to make much of a difference to the people most in need of heeding it, but I will say my piece anyway.
The book feels disorganized. Like a rough draft before someone points out all the clarity issues. Equation derivations were poorly discussed, variables were often times skipped over so defining them in equations as very difficult, and topics were often times to short to extract the necessary information. I busted my ass at ##### and graduated two semesters early; this was my least favorite class. The inability of the teacher to effectively present the material should not reflect on the book, but it does when you are so heavily reliant on the book for knowledge. I have had other professors that needed to take classes on "teaching" - yes, there is a reason a person can get a doctorate in "education" - but I have never had a class where both the professor and book failed me so terribly. The students taught each other the material.
If you are buying this for class, I am sorry. If you are buying this a resource, look elsewhere. There has to be something better.

(As an aside, I feel I should mention I not only graduated early, but I am currently employed as a civil engineering intern working in a waste water department that deals directly with the material covered in this book.)
