About the Author
Ron Adler is professor emeritus at Santa Barbara City College, where he developed programs in interpersonal communication, business and professional communication, and communication theories. He has co-authored and edited several textbooks that address communication contexts and topics including interpersonal communication, small group communication, public speaking, assertiveness, and social skills. In addition to writing and teaching, he works with professional and business people to improve their communication on the job.

Russell F. Proctor II is a professor at Northern Kentucky University, where he has taught since 1991. He primarily teaches courses in interpersonal communication, interviewing, and communication pedagogy. In 1997 he won the university's Outstanding Professor Award. He is the author of numerous articles and textbooks focusing on interpersonal communication and communication education, with a particular interest in the use of feature films as instructional resources.

WARNING: Kindle Edition Missing Significant Parts of Book Due to "Copyright Restrictions"

I got this book for a course I am taking. Unfortunately, there are several excepts and related material that are omitted from the Kindle edition due to "Copyright Restrictions". The book itself is quite good, but if you end up being quizzed on or otherwise need these sections, you may be caught with your proverbial pants down. I wonder how long before publishers realize that these hassles are often the reason why people don't trust purchasing digital material.

Amazon should NOT sell this as the "Kindle Edition" of the printed book without at least clearly advertising that the book is missing material.

INCLUDES workbook/manual - Cheaper than both the hardcover book or separate manual

This is a really great deal. Each chapter in the book has the *manual* pages so you don't need to buy each product separately. You'll save a lot by buying this book (unless you find a friend who already has the hardcover book, then you can buy a used workbook).
The only difference from the hardcover book is that the pages are in black and white instead of in color. But who cares? Be realistic, you need this for a class, and then once the semester is over you'll never look at it again. The pages are properly numbered and coincide with the hardcover, so if your instructor tells you to turn to page #100, it'll be there like the hardcover book.

Almost liked it until "Content not Available due to Copyright Restrictions"

So I decide to purchase the kindle version of this textbook so save carrying weight, and a few dollars. I was very disapointed as I bagan reading the text, because in many cases there will be a lead up to an example then suddenly in am faced with a nice bomb of a message "Content not Available due to Copyright Restrictions".

I gave this two stars, bacause other than the missing content, this is a great book.

What? I was not warned when I purchased this online that I was looking at an incomplete textbook. I have found this message several times per chapter, and yes I have had instances where I missed points in class, or couldn't fully participate in the conversation about the reading because the exaplme being discussed is not in my E-Book.

I feel it's not appropriate at all to sell the book in anything but the same form as the print book without a warning. If there are copywright restrictions preventing you from producing a full digital version, then don't do it. Don't sell it to me, and pepper the book with little messages "oops, sorry, the people that bought the paper version get the whole book, but since this is digital you don't get the same thing" It happens so much in this book, I bet if the publisher had tried they could have gotten permission to use most of the content in the E-book, but they just didn't bother. It was just easier to strip all the borrowed content from it, us readers won't know till we've already paid for it anyway.

Bottom line, if you need this for a college class, save yourself the hastle and get the paper version, you can sell it to someone later anyway, unlike an E-Book.

A much needed text on family communication

Dysfunctional/abusive communication patterns are all too common in family communication but remain ignored in standard texts. This book fills a gap in research on family communication dynamics. The essays explore the patterns in depth and open up areas of research that will hopefully become incorporated into mainstream literature.

Intriguing debates from the early 20th century

When I first bought this book, I wasn't sure if it was a collection of articles that simply addressed contradictory point of views on the subjects listed on the cover, or actual transcriptions of debates that occured in the past. I was very pleased to learn that it was indeed transcriptions of live debates that occured in the early part of the 20th century. There are three debates in all:
Has Life Any Meaning? - Between Frank Harris and Percy Ward, Sunday, April 11, 1920, Kimball Hall, Chicago
Debate on Spiritualism - Between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Joseph McCabe, November, 1919, London, England
Is Evolution True? - Between George McCready Price and Joseph McCabe, Queen's Hall, Langham Place, London, September
Though the publishers at a casual glance (of their published books) seem biased towards a particular atheistic/materialistic point of view, they none the less reproduced a fair example of high class debates between learned men of both pro and anti-views on these subjects.
One particularly interesting aspect of this book was exactly what was used as evidence for both anti and pro views at that time. As an example, pro-evolutionist Joseph McCabe said the following:
"Now I come to man. There is a general opinion that a vast gulf separates man from the ape. It did one hundred yeas ago. It certainly does not today... Now we have men of the Stone Age carrying us nearer to the ape; the Piltdown man, and one or two others, going as far again in the direction of the ape"
Of course, as most people are aware, and as the publishers themselves noted, Piltdown man was a fraud and was uncovered as such in 1953. But being "undeniable" at the time, it was still a piece of evidence for Evolution.
Being a collector of books on the subjects of the origin and divisification of life and the existence of the supernatural, I was very pleased with this book and the disputants themselves. While the evidences used are outdated, it has quite a bit of historical value, whether one is interested in the discussions or the men debating. I personally highly recommend it, and believe it would make a good addition to any personal book collection.

The economics of payments is a multi-disciplinary field, taking in branches of economics such as monetary theory, search theory, game theory and industrial organisation. It also draws on techniques from network theory and makes extensive use of simulation studies to model complex interactions between payment system members. For each of the topics covered, this volume highlights some of the most influential works in the literature. The volume also draws heavily on empirical insights, in
particular offering an historical context to central banks' involvement in payment systems.

About the Author

Mark Manning joined the Financial Stability Directorate of the Bank of England in 2002, after several years working as a fund manager in the City of London. Since joining the Bank, Mark has specialised in policy and research in payments, clearing and settlement, co-authoring several research papers and articles in this area and participating in various international policy and working groups. Mark is currently on secondment from the Bank of England at the Reserve Bank of Australia, where he heads the Payments System Stability section of the Payments Policy Department. Mark holds Masters degrees in Economics and Finance, from University College London and London Business School, respectively. Dr Erlend Nier holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. He joined the Bank of England in 2001 and held a position as Research Manager in the Bank's Financial Stability Directorate. During his time at the Bank, Erlend Nier has led research and policy work on a range of financial stability issues, including capital and liquidity standards for banking firms, payment system design, and linkages between financial stability and monetary operations. Erlend Nier's current position is as Senior Financial Sector Expert with the IMF's Monetary and Capital Market's Department, on secondment from the Bank of England.
Dr Jochen Schanz holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute. He has worked as an economist for an investment bank before joining the Bank of England as an economist in 2005. During his time at the Bank, he has worked on market infrastructure questions, focussing on the link between system design, banks' short-term liquidity management, and systemic risk. His interests include regulation of financial markets and governance of firms providing infrastructure services.

There are some twists and turns in the book that will surprise you, and make you laugh

After all you’re the one who said it’s out of commission.” I chuckle. “I’m willing to make an exception for you.” “And every other girl.” “Just you, pretty girl.”

Lady Killer is the second book to a series called Tangled Desires by Misti Murphy. This book is about two people who have a complicated situation in their lives that either have them on the run or searching for someone. They end up meeting one another, and their lives get even more complicated.

Enter Gemma, Gemma is part-time veterinarian who is on the run for her life from her ex-boyfriend trying to kill her. Running from place to place she is forced to change her name so that she stays under the radar. Signing up to a gym to release some stress, she didn’t expect to run into is Tom Hadley. Feeling more than attracted to him, she knows she cannot let herself fall for his charms, or let him get involved in her mess of a life.
"I must have zoned out completely. He’s staring at me like he’s been waiting ages for an answer. “I really don’t think it’s a good idea. Besides, I have somewhere to be.” “Are you driving?” “N-no.” Why won’t he take no for an answer? “Well, we’ll walk you then.” Apparently, I’m going to have to deal with Tom Hadley and his dog a little while longer,” Who doesn’t like a determined man especially one that's hot and refuses to take no for an answer.

Tom Hadley, known as the Lady Killer, and the Harbinger is an ex-boxer, who lost his career because of a hit and run. But that doesn’t stop him from being successful. Now back at his hometown he owns his own gym, and still gets ladies. But the one woman he wants is putting up a heck of a fight. With other complications already in his life, should he really be adding hers as well?

This book is amazing, when you first start to read it, it grabs your attention right away. The author tends to switch between the two characters, so that you’re able to see from both of their view points. There are some twists and turns in the book that will surprise you, and make you laugh. I enjoyed the book and will be searching for the first book as well as the next one after this one. I advise you that when you read this book be somewhere, that no one will bother you. You won’t want to stop reading once you begin.

Another Hadley Man!!!! I love them all.....

The Hadleys' saga continues with Tom and Gem's story!!! Sweeter but as sexy as Razer and Claire's fairytale, this book will make you develop an obsession with all of them and a deep envy to belong to this family!! All sizzling hot and complete alpha males, the Hadley men will melt your heart and put butterflies in your stomach! We discover another side of Tom in "Lady Killer", his true nature and all his mysteries finally revealed. Surprising without being any less hot and steamy, Lady Killer is just a wonderful read!!!! Well written with a good plot, lots of twists and turns, i couldn't put it down!!! Misti Murphy does it again and offers us an amazing book! Two thumbs up in the air!!!!

Lady Killer is Book 2 in the Tangled Desres Series. It picks up a couple of weeks after the end of Prick Tease. Both are standalone novels that I recommend reading.

Lady Killer is the highly enjoyable story of Tom and Gemma finding their way through the minefield of their pasts to emerge stronger, confident of who they are and what they truly want, determined to meet all challenges head-on and never settle for less. They learn what people think they know to be true may be only illusion and never judge someone based solely on their reputation. By the end of the story they are both better people and I know they are truly committed to making HEA a reality.

The story is well-written, moves at a good pace, has likable characters, and held my attention from beginning to end. I am looking forward to Book 3: Cocky F@#ker, which will delve into the relationship of Mace and Chelsea. I highly recommend reading both Prick Tease and Lady Killer.
